After a LONG day of travel yesterday (like 18 hrs!), we drove into the most beautiful skiing village you can imagine. Even in the rainy darkness we arrived in, it was beautiful! Whistler is in Canada, about 2.5 hours north of Vancouver, really far from Tampa, in distance and atmosphere! It is a total ski village, pedestrian only, lined with a multitude of little shops, restaurants and hotels/condos. Our Hilton is steps away from the gondola going up the mountain to the ski slopes, which is fantastically convenient! And our room is top-notch with a wood-burning fireplace, full kitchen and balcony. This is like escape-heaven! :)
First day on the slopes went pretty well- no major spills, and while we are definitely already sore, we can still walk, which is a good thing! There is plenty of snow and it wasn't even too cold- about -2 degrees... yea, I don't really know what that means either! Everything is in metric here! What it meant for us is we bundled, bundled, bundled before going out, did one run down, then came in and unbundled before going back up! It was a foggy day, which added an air of mystery to the mountain, and the snow-capped trees really stood out against the gray sky. We are looking forward to the rest of the week in this amazing place, and grateful for the chance to do this together!
PS- an awesome thing about being on escape is you get to have really decadent desserts even when it's close to bedtime! Like these enticing carmel-apples in the little chocolate shop...
We both ended up with one of these "avalanche apples", apples covered in carmel, then white chocolate, rolled in marshmellows, rice krispies and chocolate chips...
... though next time (and there will be a next time!), these look both cute AND yummy!

Chris told us, Nancy, -we called him to ask his "professional" opinion about places to ski. He had very fond memories of Whistler! :)
